On 16 June 2016, Michael Harris competed in Round 5 of the Comsol VW challenge at Zwartkops Raceway.
The VW Challenge Championship is run over 9 races. Race formats consist of two heats on race day ranging between 8 to 15 laps per heat depending on the length of the circuit.
“This is a new challenge for me for this year”, said Michael.
Harris competes in Lee Thompson Racing’s team.
Michael states “I have previous circuit racing experience at the tracks, but its still a challenge getting to grips with the car. However we are slowly getting to the sharp end of the field”.
Michael Harris had an up-and-down weekend, running in fifth before ending seventh in race 1 and then being sidelined by a power steering issue in the second race. “Each time I am in the car I improve a little more,” red SA lube Polo racer Michael pointed out. “There are many positives to take away from the weekend including my fastest lap around Zwartkops, so as long as we’re going forward I am quite happy.”
The VW Challenge competitors have a winter break before they take to the track again for round 6 which takes place at Red Star Raceway in Delmas on 13 August 2016.
